What’s Wrong With You – Flash Fiction

(Okay, immediately expanding my theme from vampires to paranormal because I can and I want to).

*Lola thought she was giong to a study date, but apparently she was being duped into becocming a body sacrifice for a demon summoning. Fun…*

“Oh, ack!” The voice that had been deep and powerful, speaking in an unfamiliar and inhuman language mere minutes before was subdued now even as disgust filled the tone. “What is wrong with you!?”

English flowed almost unaccented, presumably telepathic communication was translated — magic did what it would.

“Nothing is wrong with me, except the demon inhabiting my body with me,” Lola snarled back.

“No, you’re wrong. This isn’t right.”

“What isn’t?”

“Why do you hurt like this? What is wrong with you?”

“This is just… what I live with. The normal amount of pain.”

“The normal amount of pain is zero pain. Even for humans.”

“That can’t be right,” Lola argued. “People complain about pain all the time.”

“Seriously? I get summoned into a different realm and now I have to live in a body with this pain?”

“Yeah, people.complain about back pain and knee pain all the time.”

When Lola’s body moved of its own accord, or rather the accord of the other being now inhabiting it, it was disconcerting. Lola had the instinctive urge to fight the movement, to pull back. Lola expected to find her limbs grabbed like wrestling with her brother. Instead her limbs didn’t listen, instead they tingled like pins and needles.

“How much pain are you in on a day to day basis?” Not-Lola asked, accent tumbling out of Lola’s mouth in a way she was wholly unfamiliar with.

“Uh… none,” the person Not-Lola had asked, one of the jerks who had dragged Lola into the frat house and summoning circle in the first place, answered.

“Thank you,” Not-Lola said, dismissively. “See!” They snapped in silent mental communication.

“But… if this isn’t normal then… what’s wrong with me?” Lola asked.

“I don’t know but we need to get out of this circle and get you to a doctor and me to a better set of magic wielders who can send me home.”

“You don’t want to stay here?”

“In this–”

“Yeah yeah, you’ve made it very clear you don’t like my body. I meant if you could get a body without pain, which is apparently not normal.”

“I dunno. I’ve barely seen anything yet. Which reminds me…” Power welled up in Lola’s chest, expertly weilded by Not-Lola and blasted through the frat boys in the circle. “Let’s go.
